"In my freshman year at the University of Michigan, I heard a lecture by Buckminster Fuller which I still remember clearly.  He spoke for almost three hours on the topic of equal access to information and how it would affect people from all over the globe.  The technology he spoke about was television coupled with satellite communications and the example he used was a village in India.  He spoke of information as the key to bringing equality and democratization to people everywhere.  High infant mortality rates would decline, illiteracy would vanish and economic development would flourish, all from the free flow of information.  Well, I think Fuller had the right ideas but the wrong technology.  It is now the Internet that has the capacity to bring this about."
